IP address location different from data center one

The following information applies to SiteGround servers hosted on Google Cloud Platform.

When using third-party tools, in order to check the location of the IP addresses assigned to your site, you might get seemingly controversial results. For example, your server can be physically located in Europe (London, UK / Eemshaven, NL), while the check results can suggest that the IP address is located in the US.

These tools use the information from the Regional Internet Registrars (RIRs) DataBases in order to show the IP location. They represent the legal addresses of the companies that have applied for IP address resources. The legal address of a company does not necessarily coincide with the actual address of its IT infrastructure, where this IP address is brought up.

Google has a vast worldwide network and is a company that is registered in the US. Since we are using Google data center facilities, online checks would show that your account’s IP address is located in the US. Nevertheless, the actual physical location of the server that hosts your website can be different.

To find the actual location of your sites, go to your SiteGround User Area > Services > Hosting. The location of each of your hosting plans will be specified next to the type and the expiration date of the particular hosting plan.
